Jonathan Holth: Owning who you were and owning who you are

Episode Summary

How to make the best out of your poor decisions, overcome shame and stigmas, and find purpose through sobriety.

Episode Notes

Jonathan went from owning a successful restaurant, to finding himself having to face his addiction with alcohol. It was through his journey with sobriety that he found himself changing careers, and making drastic changes for the good. His story is a story of finding purpose through sobriety and turning poor decisions into positive impact.

A native North Dakotan, Jonathan resides in Grand Forks with his wife, Emily, and their three daughters. He has been a founder or co-founder of 5 small businesses, 3 nonprofits. He has helped over a dozen communities create actionable plans for growth and sustainability. His passion is building community and creating moments of change. He’s been doing that throughout his career, but possibly more importantly, through his personal story of eleven plus years of sobriety. His recovery journey has shaped who he is today, and he uses his experience to help others overcome the shame and stigmas they are facing in their lives.

In 2017, Holth was appointed by Governor Doug Burgum as one of 6 North Dakotans to serve on the inaugural advisory council for the Office of Recovery Reinvented, a role in which he continues today.

In this episode, we talk about what making changes really looks like, finding one reason to make a change, how poor decisions can sometimes lead us to our best decisions, and what it looks like to live a life of giving instead of taking.
