From running across the Sahara Desert to the greatest challenge of living sober, writer, runner, and addict, Charlie Engle shares his powerful story of overcoming his past and doing the impossible.
In 2007, Charlie Engle became the first man to run across the Sahara Dessert. The endeavor required him and two other runners to run two marathons a day for 111 consecutive days. As life-changing and challenging as that was, perhaps his most significant challenge has been his life of sobriety. In this episode, Charlie shares how addiction ruled his life for many years and how he finally realized that no one was coming to save him, and his only way out was to choose to change. His change came in the form of turning his weakness of addiction into an obsession with running, and he's never looked back.
Charlie has been clean and sober since July 23, 1992. He has a long list of pursuits and accomplishments, and he's always going around the world searching for the "next thing." Charlie is a runner, husband, father, and writer. Charlie lives in North Carolina with his wife.
